Australia Day Night Fireworks Cruise Sydney Harbour Fireworks Cruise

Australia Day doesn't finish when the tall ships go home. Luna heads back out in the evening for the part most people watch from a crowded foreshore: the sun going down behind the Bridge, the Australia Day Live concert playing out at the Opera House forecourt, and fireworks closing the night over the harbour. You get an open-air rooftop, a licensed bar and pizza out of the wood-fire oven, with the crew moving the boat around the harbour so the show is in front of you rather than behind ten thousand heads.

The night

How the night runs

Board in the early evening with a drink in hand and head out while there's still light on the water. Luna works its way around the harbour past the Opera House, Circular Quay and the northern bays as the city switches on and the concert gets going on the forecourt.

Pizza comes out of the wood-fire oven through the night and the bar stays open, with music on the rooftop between courses. Closer to the fireworks the skipper finds a spot on the water for the display, then it's an easy cruise back to the wharf.

Weather & the fine print

  • Weather: the cruise operates rain, hail or shine. Every guest can be under cover on the lower and upper decks, and the rooftop stays open whenever conditions allow. Cruises are only cancelled if authorities close the harbour or the master deems it unsafe, in which case you'll be offered a transfer or refund.
  • Schedule: departure and return times are approximate. Exact times and the wharf number are sent closer to the date and can change with water traffic, weather or harbour conditions.
  • Boarding: please arrive at least 30 minutes before departure. The vessel cannot wait for late guests and no refund is given for a missed departure.
  • Tickets: your ticket is valid for the named event only and must be presented at boarding. Tickets may be transferred to another guest — email us with the name before the day.
  • Responsible service of alcohol: Luna is a licensed vessel. Photo ID is required for alcohol service, and our crew may refuse service or refuse boarding to anyone who is intoxicated or behaving unsafely, without refund.
  • Conduct and safety: all guests must follow crew instructions at all times. No BYO alcohol, no smoking or vaping inside, no glass on the rooftop, and no tall, narrow or pointed heels — small chunky heels are fine.
  • Belongings: guests are responsible for their own personal property. The organiser and vessel operator are not responsible for lost, damaged or unattended items.
  • Media: photography and video may be taken on board for promotional use. Let us know before departure if you'd prefer not to appear.
  • Refunds: refunds are available up to 30 days before the event unless the ticket terms state otherwise. All other enquiries go to info@lunacruises.com.au.

Boarding opens in the early evening for a departure before sunset, with the boat back at the wharf after the fireworks. Exact boarding time and wharf are confirmed on your ticket a few days before the cruise.

The evening program centres on the Australia Day Live concert at the Sydney Opera House forecourt, which finishes with a fireworks display over the harbour. The official times are set by the event organisers each year, and we plan the route around the published program.

From the boat on the water. Our skipper positions Luna for the display on the night based on where the fireworks are being fired, harbour traffic and conditions, so we can't promise a fixed side or angle — but you'll have open deck space on three levels to move around and watch from.

Food and drinks are included for the whole cruise: wood-fire pizza fresh from the oven, platters to share through the evening, and a licensed bar serving beer, wine, spirits and non-alcoholic options.

Yes. The day cruise and the night fireworks cruise are separate departures on 26 January and are ticketed separately, so you can book one or both.

Boarding is on Sydney Harbour, with King Street Wharf, Rose Bay, Circular Quay and more by arrangement. Your exact wharf, boarding time and a map are sent with your ticket confirmation a few days before the cruise.
