Can we sell tickets to cover the charter?

Yes, and most societies do. The charter fee is fixed regardless of how many tickets you sell, so the important part is setting your ticket price with a buffer built in rather than pricing to exactly break even at full capacity. If you tell us your expected numbers we'll give you a straight read on whether it works — we run ticketed events ourselves, so this is familiar ground.

When do we have to pay?

Tell us your situation when you enquire. Societies often need to align payment with when ticket revenue actually lands, and that's a conversation worth having up front rather than discovering a clash later. We'll confirm the deposit and final payment timing in writing before anything is locked in.

Can you invoice the society or the student union directly?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can invoice the society, the union or the university against a purchase order and work to your finance process. Tell us who's paying and how when you enquire.

What if we don't sell enough tickets?

The charter fee doesn't change with the headcount, so this is the risk the committee carries and it's worth being clear-eyed about it. Two things help: price with a margin rather than at break-even, and pick your date carefully — a mid-semester Thursday sells very differently to the last week before exams. Ask us before you set the date and we'll tell you what we've seen work.

Do all our guests need to be students?

No. Plenty of societies bring alumni, partners and guests from other unis. Just give us the total number — we don't need to know who's enrolled where.

Question 6

What about members who are under 18?

First-years are sometimes 17, so tell us in advance if you're expecting under-18 guests. They're welcome on board, they just won't be served alcohol, and we'll set the bar up accordingly. If you'd rather run the event strictly 18+, we'll check ID at the gangway.

How does the bar work with a big student crowd?

Responsible service of alcohol applies exactly as it does in any licensed venue in New South Wales, and it applies on BYO charters too. Our crew will cut off anyone who's had too much. Worth telling your committee before the night so nobody's surprised — and worth knowing there's no stepping outside on a boat, so flag anyone you're worried about early.

Can we bring our own DJ?

Yes. There's a PA on board, so bring a DJ, a laptop or just a phone with a playlist. The rooftop and rear deck both work as a dance floor.

How do we check people in?

One gangway, staffed at boarding. Send us your list, or run your own door with your committee — most societies prefer to handle their own check-in and we'll work alongside whatever you set up.

What happens if it rains?

The night runs. Every guest can be under cover — the lower deck is fully enclosed and level two is covered.

Where do we board?

King Street Wharf is easiest for most groups — walkable from the CBD, straightforward by train or rideshare from any of the main campuses. Circular Quay, Rose Bay and more by arrangement.

O-week and end-of-semester dates go early because every society wants the same fortnight. If your committee has the date approved, get in touch as soon as you do — and if you're flexible on the day of the week, there's far more availability than you'd expect.
